2011 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational Preview- The "Sure Shot" '69 Camaro
As we've been previewing the field for the 2011 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational, presented by Wilwood Disc Brakes KN Air Filters, we've notice there are typically two types of cars- tweakers and thrashers. The tweakers are guys like Vinnie Allegretta, who won the inaugural Run to the Shore qualifying event, to punch his ticket for Nevada.
Jake's Rod shop had already built a very wicked (as they like to say in the Northeast) '69 Camaro for Vinnie, but he wanted to push the envelope even more. Over the winter, a Mast Motorsports LS7 was installed and tuned to produce 684 horsepower. JRS also upgraded the suspension with six-way, adjustable Bilstein custom-valved shocks and their proprietary apex sub frame and three-link torque arm rear suspension. Baer 6s calipers with 14-inch, two-piece rotors handle stopping duties for the 18-inch CCW wheels, wrapped in Michelin PS2 rubber.
Modifications that will help specifically during track use include an Autokraft road racing oil pan, a three quart Accusump unit, triple master cylinders, a remote reservoir, and flushed lexan windows. Click here to see pictures of the car as it was coming together.
We expect Vinnie to make some minor changes to his F-body in the weeks leading up to the 2011 OUSCI, but those will be mere "tweaks" compared to the outright thrashing some of the other entrants are currently engaged in. This will be Vinnie's first OUSCI, but he is no stranger to track events. While some of his fellow competitors are locked in the garage, busting their knuckles, Allegretta has been out running his Camaro in NASA and COM SCC time trial events. Will the practice pay off? Come join us at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch and find out!
