A Christmas present for your pride & joy!
As we get closer to Christmas, now would be a great time to give a gift to your car, truck, boat or RV, which may be spending the winter months in storage. While your pride and joy may not appreciate this gift, you certainly will come springtime. Check the voltage of your stored batteries and if the voltage has dropped below 12.4 volts, charge them back up and make sure they are disconnected from any parasitic draws, which may be discharging them.
Fully-charged, our RedTops (and 34M BlueTop) will measure about 12.6-12.8 volts and our YellowTops and BlueTops (except for the 34M BlueTop) will measure about 13.0-13.2 volts. When batteries become discharged below 12.4 volts, sulfation begins to diminish both capacity and lifespan. Not only that, discharged batteries are more susceptible to freezing and the damage that goes along with it. Many times, our stored vehicles are out of sight and as a result, out of mind. When it does come time to bring them back out of storage, the damage has already been done. Don't let that happen to you. Check your battery voltage and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
