Run To The Coast- The First 2013 OUSCI Qualifier
The fourth annual Run To The Coast (RTTC) is coming up next month at El Toro Field in Irvine, California on February 22-24th. As has been the case with this event and several others like it, the RTTC is sold-out for competitors. However, spectators are welcome to attend for a nominal fee (last year it was $5). We spoke to the event organizers this morning and they indicated they were able to accommodate several wait-list entrees for this year's event, but that there probably wouldn't be any other openings. We can't guarantee the RTTC will be a qualifier again in 2014, but keep this in mind for future reference if you missed out on this year's event.
Like many of our qualifying events, the RTTC will put competitors through a variety of events that will test the capabilities of their vehicles and prove their road-worthiness. By the end of the weekend, one competitor will be selected to participate in the 2013 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational. However, the organizers of this event have a lot more planned.
SPEED will be debuting a new TV series this year, called R U Faster than a Redneck? which will feature several past OUSCI competitors, a few of which will be at the RTTC. On Thursday, Feb. 21st, the series will have a sneak-preview series premier that is open to the public (including RTTC folks) at JT SCHMID’s Restaurant and Brewery, 2415 Park Avenue, in nearby Tustin, California. Everything starts at 7PM and the general public is welcome to attend. If you'd like to get a taste of what this show is going to be about, check out this YouTube video.
For those of you who want to participate in an OUSCI qualifier, but can't make this event, don't wait too long, as some events, like the Sandhills Open Road Challenge are already sold-out, while other events, like the Silver State Classic Challenge have limited room available and events like Holley's LSFest are limited to LS-powered vehicles. We'll be bringing you more information on all the upcoming OUSCI qualifying events in the coming weeks and months, but until then, keep getting your vehicle ready and get ready to have some fun!
