Registration now open for the Detroit Speed Southern Slam- OUSCI Qualifier

b-kyle-tucker-camaro-31_7.jpgAs we are reaching out to the competitors from the 2012 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational, presented by Royal Purple and KN, to let them know it will be airing on SPEED on March 10th at 11AM Eastern, we are hearing a familiar response- "I loved competing in the 2012 OUSCI and really want to come back in 2013!"

The reality is, very few folks make a return trip to the OUSCI from one year to the next and even fewer run cars that have competed in the past. With the exception of a few sponsors, 2008 OUSCI Champion, Steven Rupp was the only person to run in the 2012 OUSCI, who had previously-competed in an OUSCI in the same car- the Bad Penny Camaro. Guys like Zeke Peterson, Albert Melchior, Mark Stielow and Danny Popp all made return trips to the OUSCI as competitors in 2012, but they were driving in totally different vehicles.

There are a lot of folks who want in on this event and because space is so limited, repeat competitors are few and far between. That's why OUSCI qualifying events, like the upcoming American Street Car Series Detroit Speed Southern Slam are so important. These are rare opportunities to get your car noticed and get into the big show after SEMA.

A look at this year's qualifying events also shows very limited opportunities for certain vehicles. The two Goodguys car shows are only open to domestic vehicles and Holley's LSFest is only open to LS-powered cars and trucks. The American Street Car Series Run To The Coast event taking place later this month and the Sandhills Open Road Challenge taking place later this summer are both already sold out. That means if you are driving a European or Import car or truck or non LS-powered vehicle, the only OUSCI qualifiers still available are the Southern Slam, the OPTIMA Faceoff at Road America, the Motor State Challenge and the Silver State Classic Challenge, which we're told only has limited space left.

These are geographically-diverse qualifiers, with one being out West, one on the East Coast and two in the Midwest, so there really is no excuse for not getting out there and having some fun.
