Back to the Basics- OPTIMA® REDTOP® YELLOWTOP® & BLUETOP®

FamilyNew.jpgWith our $20 Instant rebate on all OPTIMA batteries at all participating retailers coming up in the month of April, we thought now would be a great time to go back to the basics of OPTIMA batteries and talk about the differences between our YELLOWTOP, REDTOP BLUETOP batteries. We realize this may be common knowledge for some of you, but we also know there are plenty of folks out there who don't know the difference between the three batteries.

With that in mind, we'll give you a brief breakdown between the three OPTIMA battery colors and try to help you figure out which one is best for you, between our Red top, Yellow top and Blue top. Those of you who prefer to listen, instead of reading, can watch this YouTube video, which also lays out the same information. Most vehicles on the road will do just fine with our REDTOP battery, which is a great SLI (starting/lighting/ignition) battery- daily drivers, weekend fun cars, etc...

Our YELLOWTOP battery is designed for both starting and deep-cycle use, so it is a bit of a hybrid. An equally-sized YELLOWTOP will have slightly less cranking amps, than it's REDTOP counterpart, but it will have more reserve capacity and is designed to be deep-cycled. These batteries will also work just fine in daily drivers, but if a vehicle has significant electrical demands- winches, big stereos, etc... then a YELLOWTOP is a better option. This would even be true for vehicles with high parasitic draws, like newer Corvettes and vehicles with car alarms, especially if they sit unused for extended periods of time.

Our BLUETOP batteries are designed for marine and RV use and come with additional threaded top post terminals for those applications. Internally, our D34M, D27M and D31M BLUETOPs are identical to their YELLOWTOP counterparts and also share a light-gray case. However, the 34M BLUETOP is the marine version of our Group 34 REDTOP starting battery, so it is not designed for deep-cycle use. That battery has a dark gray case.

If you still have questions about which battery is best for your application, just give us a call at 1-888-8-OPTIMA and we'll be happy to assist you!
