OPTIMA® Faceoff Preview- Terry Neuville's 1968 Camaro

If Terry Neuville's name sounds familiar, it is because he had some fun with us out in the desert at the 2011 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational. In his rookie effort, Terry notched top-20 finishes in both the autocross and hot lap challenge, finishing an impressive 13th place overall. Terry's ride is a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, that amazingly enough, was his first car from high school.


Terry purchased the F-body at the end of the disco era for $400 and added 125,000 miles and four paint jobs as his daily driver until 1990, when he finally had a proper paint job sprayed on it. Once that happened, the Camaro was transitioned into a crusing machine, covering five Hot Rod Power Tour long hauls and occasional trips down the quarter mile.


In 2008, he decied to completely re-build the car, with the goal of making it something he could drive anywhere, race (autocross, road race, drag race), take to car shows and drive back home with the comfort like a new car. He thinks he came pretty close to hitting his goal and we can't disagree. The entire transformation took about 14 months, six of which were spent in paint jail and the rest in Terry's two-car garage at home, where he handled the wrenching.


The first autocross event he ever attended was the 2009 Run Through The Hills event, one month after the car was completed. Terry was pretty much hooked from that point forward and the next year, he signed up for the Midwest Muscle Car Challenge, which marked his first competitive experience on a road course, where he finished 10th overall and once again ran the RTTH event.


He now makes an effort to hit both Goodguys events in the Dallas area (he finished first one year), has finished as high as sixth at the Run To Music City, fifth at Holley's LS Fest, tied for second at the 2011 RTTH and second at the Chevy High Performance Top Ride Shootout. In total, Terry has logged another 36,000 miles since re-building his ride. The list of modifications is so long, we usually let him do the talking, so here you go-

The car has a 2005 LQ4 6.0 engine with a 4L65E trans putting out 410 RWHP and weights 3605lbs.
