Event 3 - 24 Hours of Punishment in Nürburgring, Germany
They call it the Green Hell.
Germany’s most loved and hated course is the Nürburgring, and it’s renowned for the skill and endurance it demands of drivers. Nürburgring has become a modern proving ground for car manufacturers, due to just how punishing it can be on a vehicle’s systems.
“[Nürburgring] certainly isn’t smooth,” said James Clay, one of our drivers for the event. “There are four or five jumps where the car leaves the ground, per lap.” That should give you an idea of what this battery was powering through for literally an entire day and night at the Nürburgring 24-Hour Race. The new OPTIMA® YELLOWTOP® with PUREFLOW TECHNOLOGY™ kept powering the lights, power steering and countless other systems on Clay’s car, especially after the alternator gave out-putting the entire electrical strain of the vehicle on only the battery.
James Clay and his team competed on straight battery power for the final laps of the endurance race. The team powered through to a 9th place finish. We then pulled the battery from the car and sent it to face its next extreme challenge.
