Mike DuSold's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

If you've ever come across another first gen Camaro that looks and performs anything like Mike DuSold's '67 Camaro, we'd like to see it!

Mike DuSold has created an absolute monster in building his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro for OPTIMA's Search for the Ultimate Street Car series and the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI). Near 50/50 weight distribution, anti-lock brakes and 1,100 horsepower on tap in the wildest street-legal first gen F-body the planet has ever seen. Even the interior carries over the fighter plane theme with functional gauges and a cockpit-inspired layout. However, Mike didn't exactly burst on the scene and start dominating.

DuSold first made an appearance at the 2015 Texas Motor Speedway event in a car that was nearly a shell of what it is today. Many of the components that define a street car were absent or not functioning, but Mike quickly caught the bug and made three more OUSCI qualifying events that season, picking up the K&N Filters Spirit of the Event invitation to the 2015 OUSCI. That would be the last time DuSold's Camaro would ever get an invitation to Las Vegas that wasn't performance-based and the warning shot was fired with an eighth place finish at the 2015 OUSCI.

The following season, DuSold battled Rich Willhoff's C6 Corvette for the 2016 Holley EFI GTL Class points championship, which came down to the final event and the narrowest of margins- 1,462 points to 1,458 points. While he could've easily added weight and dominated the GTV Class, DuSold also has the OUSCI on his radar. He also moved up in the the OUSCI final results in 2016, finishing fourth behind three cars that were more than 25 years newer than his Camaro.

DuSold kept the pressure on during the 2017 season, battling Ken Thwaits' Evo RS and Rich Willhoff's Corvette again for the Holley EFI GTL Class Championship and finishing on the OUSCI podium, just three points behind Austin Barnes' 2010 Dodge Viper and Thwaits' OUSCI-winning Evo. Whether it is a qualifying event or the OUSCI, every time DuSold's Camaro shows up at an event, something about it has been changed, modified, tweaked or upgraded in some way. DuSold is constantly looking for ways to improve the performance and appearance of his Camaro, which is one of the most-polarizing cars in the series.

While no one questions the ingenuity or quality of the craftsmanship that went into building the Camaro, there are some who feel it pushes the definition of a "street car" too far. DuSold knows it pushes the envelope, but if he wants to compete against modern performance cars for the Ultimate Street Car title, he knows he can't concern himself with whether or not his masterpiece appeals to everyone's tastes. Whether or not it ever claims the title, we think it defines the "Ultimate" description as well as any car that has ever run in these events. Check out Mike's performances over the years and a huge gallery of images, that shows some of the evolution of his Camaro over the years.
