Scott Collins' 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
Scott Collins' '68 Camaro is one of the top competitors in the Lingenfelter Design & Engineering Challenge in OPTIMA's Search for the Ultimate Street Car series.
Scott Collins is entering his third season of competition in OPTIMA's Search for the Ultimate Street Car series. His first foray into the competitive street car scene came at the 2016 stop at NCM Motorsports Park, where Collins' Camaro made a bold opening salvo in the Lingenfelter Design & Engineering Challenge, racking up 98 points and a third place finish overall finish in that category. Typically, new competitors encounter a bit of a learning curve on D&E, but Collins' Camaro has shown exceptionally well since it's first event and is always a top contender in that category.
In fact, in spite of different fields and different sets of judges, Collins' Camaro has never finished with fewer than 96 points and has nabbed the “perfect” 100 at NCM Motorsports Park in 2017. In seven events over the past two seasons, Collins' Camaro has averaged 98.1 points in the Lingenfelter Design & Engineering Challenge, establishing it as one of the series' most-consistent performers. The challenge for Collins is finishing high enough in the timed segments, to punch his ticket for Las Vegas.
In spite of a string of top-10 GTV Class finishes in 2016, Collins' 11th-place finish in the season-long points chase only yielded 1,052 points and the cut-off for receiving an invitation to the 2016 SEMA Show and OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) was 1,210 points. Scott's Camaro ran at three of seven events in 2017 and once again, strung together three top-ten finishes in the GTV Class, but once again fell short of qualifying for the OUSCI. His 971 points in 2017 were good enough for 13th place, but the cut-off for making it to Vegas last year was 1,022 points.
Collins is on the cusp of qualifying for the OUSCI in 2018, just needing to finish a little bit higher in the timed segments. He's scheduled to run the same three stops in 2018, that he ran at in 2017- NCM Motorsports Park, Pike's Peak International Raceway and Road America.
