OPTIMA Batteries has long been the leader for AGM fishing batteries and many questioned why OPTIMA didn't offer a lithium battery sooner for fishing boats and fish finders. Those questions were subsequently answered, as anglers snapped up lithium batteries from unknown brands and began having a multitude of issues with those batteries. By contrast, OPTIMA took a methodical approach in developing our ORANGETOP lithium marine batteries and leaned on some of the top professional anglers in the world, like Wesley Strader, to ensure OPTIMA lithium batteries exceeded expectations from the start.

The process starts where it should for any battery used in a marine environment- an IP67 rating. There are various levels of IP ratings, which stands for "Ingress Protection" and the first digit in the rating refers to solids and the second digit refers to liquids. An IP rating of 67 is not easy to achieve and it means OPTIMA's batteries can be fully submerged in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minutes, whereas a lesser IP65 rating indicates protection against low pressure water jets, like rainfall, etc...

Seasoned anglers know there will be times when batteries in boats get submerged in water, even if the boat isn't sinking. You may stuff the bow in a big wave, a thunderstorm may dump a bunch of rain on you in a short amount of time or you may forget to put the drain plug in your boat. When anything like that happens, that's the time when you most need your battery to be working, so it can power the bilge pump and remove that water or get you safely to shore.

Unfortunately, many anglers learned the hard way, that an IP67 rating is really a requirement for boat batteries. Some lithium brands also learned that lesson and have quietly exited the marine space to focus on the drier confines of RV batteries and stand-alone power applications, while others have simply gone out of business.

OPTIMA's ORANGETOP lithium marine batteries have a host of other safety ratings, including UL 1973, UL 2580, UN38.3, IEC 62619 and IEC 63057. A simple search can give you a full description of what is involved in the independent, third-party testing that results in those designations, but the important distinction for you to know about OPTIMA Batteries is that they are not only safety rated at the cell level, but also at the battery level. That means they not only tested the cells to failure in a variety of harsh conditions, but they tested the entire battery, including the cells in such conditions, to understand how a battery reacts to being crushed, short-circuited, overcharged, exposed to extreme temperatures, etc...

Safety is our top priority, so we really don't know any other way to build a battery than to make sure it is the safest product possible for our customers to use. We do this because we've been in the battery business for a very long time and we know how our products get abused and destroyed. We know making batteries in such a manner and having them tested won't prevent them from being destroyed in extremely abusive situations, but we want to do everything we can to minimize the impact of a battery failure in those situations from a safety standpoint. We hope you want the same and will consider OPTIMA Batteries for your boating and fish finder needs!
