The 1966 Ford Mustang came with two different engines, a six-cylinder and a V8, but the battery size options for owners of these classic ponycars are even more plentiful. OPTIMA offers five different battery sizes for the '66 Mustang in both YELLOWTOP and REDTOP. The REDTOPs offer slightly more cranking amps than their comparable YELLOWTOP counterparts, which offer slightly more reserve capacity and the ability to be deep-cycled. However, all of the Mustang battery choices from OPTIMA will offer more than enough power for any stock or even slightly-modified application.

If your Mustang does have significant electrical modifications, like a car alarm, aftermarket stereo or it no longer has an alternator (racing applications), we would strongly suggest a YELLOWTOP. We also suspect most of these cars are no longer driven on a daily basis. If that's the case for your Mustang, we'd suggest regular use of a quality battery maintenance device, to ensure your battery and vehicle are ready to go whenever you are. If you didn't click on the highlighted section in the first paragraph to see the direct-fit battery options we offer for the '66 Mustang, we'll tell you that they include the 34R, 34/78 (REDTOP or YELLOWTOP) and Group 35 (REDTOP or YELLOWTOP).
