The competition gets tougher every year in BFGoodrich Hot Lap Challenge at the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational, presented by Royal Purple and K&N Filters. Back in 2010, a lap time of 2:01.983 was good enough for a top-20 finish, but in 2013, it wouldn't have placed in the top-30. The spread among the top drivers is also tightening up. In 2011, the gap between first and 20th place was 15.327 seconds. This year, just 9.077 seconds separated the top-20 cars.

Four-time SCCA World Challenge Champion, Randy Pobst, also reminded us why professional drivers are not allowed in the OUSCI. Pobst piloted a stock 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S station wagon to a fast lap of 1:50.8, which was quicker than all but the top-10 cars in the field. After the BFG Hot Lap Challenge wrapped up, he hopped into Bret Voelkel's '33 Ford Coupe and proceeded to lay down a lap time five seconds faster than Voelkel's best time. That was the second-fastest lap of the day, in a car that he had zero seat time in prior to the event.

While classic musclecars continue to hold their own on the track, modern cars and those from Europe and Asia are starting to make their presence known. Four of the top-10 finishers were European or Imports and six of the top-10 rolled off the production line in the 21st century.

With track time available all over the country through events held by the Ultimate Street Car Association, more competitors than ever before are able to maximize the performance of their vehicles and raise the bar even higher. We can only imagine where things will go in 2014! Here are the complete final results from the 2013 BF Goodrich Hot Lap Challenge-
