How Much is a Battery for a Toyota Tacoma?

Toyota first introduced the Tacoma to the US market in 1995 and it's been a popular truck ever since. Now in it's third generation the Tacoma offers owners a lot of flexibility in how they can use the truck- big enough to haul some lumber and tow some toys, but not too big to fit into parking ramps and most garages. OPTIMA has offered battery upgrades for every generation of the Tacoma and within those generations, Tacoma owners also have choices of which replacement batteries they'd like to use and how much they might cost.

Since we don't know when you'll be reading this blog or what our pricing will be when you read it, we'll provide you with direct links to the batteries we mention, which will always show current pricing of the batteries you are considering. We can tell you that for third generation Tacoma owners (2016 and newer), a Group 35 battery is a direct-fit replacement for your truck and comes in a choice of a REDTOP or a YELLOWTOP. REDTOPs are great batteries for most Tacoma owners and will offer plenty of cranking amps to start either the four-cylinder or six-cylinder-equipped trucks. If you plan on adding significant electrical accessories to your Tacoma, we'd recommend choosing the YELLOWTOP, which is designed & warrantied for deep-cycle applications, including vehicles with winches, aftermarket stereos, car alarms, auxiliary lighting or other significant electrical accessories that may deeply-discharge a battery.

Second generation Tacoma owners (2005-2015) have even more options for direct-fit replacement batteries. Four-cylinder owners can again choose between the REDTOP or YELLOWTOP Group 35 batteries, while trucks with the 4.0-liter V6 may choose either the the much larger D27F YELLOWTOP, depending on the year their truck was produced (later years tend to call only for the D27F, but you can search for your truck by year here). First generation Tacomas were built from 1995 to 2004 and those owners also have several OPTIMA batteries to choose from. Just about all the Tacomas from that era will again choose between the REDTOP or YELLOWTOP Group 35 batteries.

Whatever the year of your Tacoma or the battery you decide to run, we can tell you that keeping the battery voltage topped off whenever possible will maximize battery performance and lifespan. REDTOP batteries should measure at least 12.6 volts, when properly-charged, while YELLOWTOP batteries should measure at least 13.0 volts.
