In most areas of the country, motorcycles don't see year-round use. You can just look at other motorcycles and see they don't get regular use. As motorcycles sit for months on end, the question not asked often enough is how to properly store a motorcycle battery? With OPTIMA motorcycle batteries, the answer can be fairly straightforward. Each of those batteries comes with a POWERLINK cable that connects directly to the battery and allows you to have remote access to your battery, to check state of charge, charge the battery and turn the battery on or off.
That last feature is especially helpful as it relates to battery storage, because the POWERLINK interface is a simple push button away from turning your motorcycle battery off for winter storage and preventing it from being deeply discharged as your motorcycle sits. OPTMA chargers and maintainers do a great job of keeping batteries properly maintained while in storage, but motorcycles aren't always stored near a source for electricity, so that's not always an option.
In this video, OPTIMA Jim demonstrates how very easy it is to turn off an OPTIMA ORANGETOP motorcycle battery for winter storage. If you are not using an OPTIMA battery, we would recommend completely disconnecting your battery from your motorcycle while it is in storage and keeping it connected to a quality battery maintenance device for as long as it sits in storage. If that's not possible, make sure the battery is fully charged to at least 12.6 volts before your motorcycle goes into storage and then fully recharge it with a battery charger as soon as you bring it out of storage. You don't need to remove your battery from your motorcycle, but if you do, batteries do best when stored in cool, dry locations (you don't need to put them on a piece of wood or anything like that).
