OPTIMA now offers ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle batteries in a variety of sizes, to fit more than 95% of bikes on the market. Is a lithium motorcycle battery the right choice for your bike? Lithium motorcycle batteries are typically significantly lighter than their lead-acid counterparts. For example, a 2018 Honda Honda CRF250L dirtbike uses a Group 7 battery.

A typical Group 7 lead-acid battery weighs about 4.8 pounds. The OPTIMA QUAD7 ORANGETOP is about 64% lighter at just 1.7 pounds. The difference is even more significant for motorcycles that use larger batteries, like Harley-Davidsons. The late-model Harley-Davidson Road Kings typically use a Group 30 battery that can weigh as more than 22 pounds with lead-acid chemistry, while OPTIMA's ORANGETOP QUAD30 weighs about 68% less at just 7.1 pounds.

If you're not tracking your bike, battery weight may not be your biggest consideration. However, most motorcycle owners would like to see longer life from their motorcycle battery and lithium batteries certainly deliver in a big way when it comes to cycle life. How big depends on who you ask and what data they are using. The problem is that the industry test parameters for lead-acid and lithium batteries are not the same, so an "apples to apples" comparison typically doesn't exist, as it does when we can claim OPTIMA's AGM batteries can last up to three times as long as a typical flooded lead-acid battery.

Many lithium motorcycle battery brands are not manufacturers. They buy batteries from a third-party manufacturer and put their own label on it, before re-selling it to consumers. If they get any life cycle information from the manufacturers, they are likely getting it at the cell level and not as an entire collection of cells that make up a 12-volt motorcycle battery. These brands don't have a lab where they can isolate variables and set up an "apples to apples" test, so they just take the cell-level data provided to them by someone else and make vague claims of 2X, 3X or 4X the lifespan of either flooded lead-acid batteries or even other lithium batteries. Who is going to call them out on that?

Other lithium battery brands may take this same cell-level data and promote thousands of charge cycles or tens of thousands of start cycles. With claims like that, one could be led to believe the next lithium motorcycle they buy may be the last, but that's not necessarily the case and the negative reviews on popular websites can give you a glimpse into what's going on with battery brands.

Like their lead-acid counterparts, most lithium motorcycle batteries are basically boxes of energy. If they are connected to something that needs energy, those batteries will deliver it, often to the point of becoming deeply-discharged. We've read countless reviews citing this issue and we know it well. We've addressed this issue in OPTIMA ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle batteries on two fronts, with OPTIMA's POWERLINK and CPR systems.

OPTIMA's POWERLINK is the black cable attached to the battery and can be especially useful for motorcycle batteries that are mounted under seats or in other hard-to-reach areas. The POWERLINK dongle allows you to remotely check the approximate state of charge of your battery, remotely connect an OPTIMA lithium battery charger to your battery to keep voltage properly maintained or turn your battery off, so your motorcycle doesn't discharge the battery as it sits.

If you decide not to keep your OPTIMA lithium motorcycle battery on a maintainer while not in use or your play your stereo system for an extended period of time while parked somewhere, OPTIMA's CPR system will automatically step in and reserve enough energy in the battery to start your motorcycle one more time, which will allow you to get your bike started and hopefully, headed toward a place where you can fully recharge your battery with a quality battery charger.

Add IP67 protection against water and dust intrusion and one of the leading Battery Management Systems (BMS) into the equation and you have a lithium battery for your motorcycle with no equal. Take a closer look here, where you can order an OPTIMA ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle battery factory-direct!
