Mike Cavanah's 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle was one of three entered in the field for the 2014 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI), presented by K&N Filters. While Sam Farrington & RideTech also presented outstanding examples, Cavanah was hoping his would come out on top. Unfortunately, it just wasn't meant to be for Mike in 2014. Cavanah previously competed in the qualifying events at both Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Auto Club Speedway, but had various issues pop up at both events.

"I was happy with my driving," said Mike, "but my car didn't finish any of the three events I entered, which is so disappointing. Next year is redemption and I'm working on the car to be more reliable." Some of the areas that cause him problems at the OUSCI included his fuel pump and brakes, but we're really glad to hear he hasn't gotten discouraged and is planning a return in 2015. "I loved most of the field and thought it was a really cool mix of cars," says Cavanah. "It was very well-organized and a fun event to run in, but I would like to get more seat time and track time leading up to the OUSCI, to get more acquainted with things." The cars and competitors who impressed Cavanah the most during the OUSCI include 2014 Champion, Danny Popp's 2003 Chevrolet Corvette and 2013 Champion Brian Hobaugh's 1965 Corvette.

Mike's advice to future competitors is to get lots of track time and seat time prior to the OUSCI and have fun. We expect he'll probably doing plenty of that in 2015 and we want you to get in on the action. Dates and locations for OPTIMA's 2015 Search for the Ultimate Street Car have been announced, so head over to the Ultimate Street Car Association website, pick out the events you'd like to run in and sign up. In the meantime, if you'd like to see more from Mike's world, be sure to follow him on Instagram.
