OPTIMA® Faceoff Preview- Dannie Pinard's 2013 1LE Camaro


Dannie Pinard is on a mission like few we've ever seen. Pinard wants into the 2013 OPTIMA┬« Ultimate Street Car Invitational, presented by Royal Purple and KN Filters and he's pulling out all the stops. We first met Dannie last year on the HOT ROD Magazine Power Tour, when he competed in the Faceoff at Arlington, but he's been dipping his toes in the water before that, running in the Run to the Coast the last two years.

Pinard, who hails from Porter Ranch, California, made a calculated risk last year running the official Power Tour route, which resulted in his late arrival to the Autocross Speed/Stop competition. He didn't feel like he had a great showing in either event as a result and decided to get serious.

His 2010 Camaro was soon replaced with a 2013 1LE and a phone call was made to Pete Basica of Pedders Suspension, to find out how to best set up his new ride for competition. He also wisely chose to invest in the "nut behind the wheel" upgrade and sent himself to the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.

Pinard was not totally unfamiliar with competitive driving, having previously-participated in numerous autocross events at Super Chevy shows, NMCA events ant MATS in Las Vegas, but good instruction from professional drivers will only enhance Dannie's ability behind the wheel. That schedule has continued into 2013, as Pinard has already competed in the Run to the Coast, SoCal Challenge, drove 2,100 miles to the Autobahn Country Club to compete in the Heidt's Performance Challenge, where he won the autocross for the fastest time by a non-pro and is competing in the Midwest Muscle Car Challenge this weekend!

Dannie is a realist and knows getting an invitation to the 2013 OUSCI at one qualifying event is a long shot, so he is also trying to work in Holley's LS Fest into his schedule after the Faceoff, as well as the Run to the Music City (if he can find a place to stash his Camaro in Nashville).

Speaking of his Camaro, we should mention it is no longer the stock 1SS/1LE he ordered from the factory. Haddad Motorsports has tuned his LS3 since Kooks Headers, hi-flow cats and a KN Intake were added and it is now producting 430 horsepower and 422 lb.-ft. of torque to the wheels. Pedder's Supercar coilovers have also been added, as well as ZL1 swaybars, and HD subframe and radius bushings. The already-potent front brakes have been upgraded to CTS-V calipers and ZL1 rotors mated to Hawk pads and complimented by stainless-steel lines and Motul fluid.

Tony from Deviate Motoring helped Dannie with a set 20-inch of Forgeline ZX3P wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber and a Seibon carbon fiber hood, ZL1 spoiler and a Speedware harness bar with five-point belts have been added for good measure.

With his car set up, Dannie is now focused on dialing in his combination and getting as much seat time, with his sights set firmly on the OUSCI in November. In fact, he's even set up a Facebook page to document his quest. Will he make it? Spectators are welcome at the OUSCI and admission is free with a ticket stub from the NASCAR Nationwide race.
