Mercedes-Benz cars have a well-earned reputation for durability and reliability. There are many diesel and gas-powered examples that routinely rack up hundreds of thousands of miles, but what about the legendary AMG-tuned examples? These high-performance masterpieces tend to be coveted and in many cases, babied by enthusiasts and collectors.

This 1996 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG has lived a much different life, much of it spent as a commuter car in Southern California. We picked it up with about 480,000 miles on it, dropped in our all-new DH7 YELLOWTOP battery and decided over the next several months we'd pile on another 20,000 miles or so and see if we couldn't hit 500,000 miles by the time we hit the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in early-November.

The last several months have been quite an adventure. Take a look at the places this AMG has visited with ace lensman, Royce Rumsey, Model & Com├ędienne Eugenia Kuzmina, race car driver Tanner Foust (and a few others) behind the wheel. Bigger plans are in the works, so stay tuned!
