When you make batteries with different colored lids, you have to expect people will ask what the difference is between those colors and which is the best one. OPTIMA's Daryl Brockman explains in this video what makes the REDTOP, YELLOWTOP, BLUETOP and ORANGETOP batteries unique from each other and the applications for which they are each best-suited.

For example, a REDTOP is a great starting battery for a classic hot rod, but not at all appropriate for starting a Harley-Davidson Road King, which would use one of our ORANGETOP powersports batteries. Likewise, OPTIMA's ORANGETOP marine and RV batteries work great for trolling motors, but would be overkill for a Honda Civic. OPTIMA's YELLOWTOP AGM batteries are the go-to for a combination of engine starting and deep-cycle use, like Jeeps with winches and car audio, but OPTIMA's QH6 ORANGETOP offers significantly more cycle life in a much lighter battery that would be ideal for racing applications.

Whichever color OPTIMA you choose, know that you will maximize battery performance and lifespan with proper voltage maintenance (~12.6V for REDTOPs, ~13.0V for YELLOWTOPs and most BLUETOPs and ~14.0V for ORANGETOPs). We're so confident this is true, we'll add an additional year of free replacement warranty coverage to your OPTIMA battery, if you purchase an OPTIMA D1200+ battery charger from us when you purchase your OPTIMA battery.
