With the introduction of OPTIMA's all-new ORANGETOP motorcycle battery line, OPTIMA now offers direct-fit motorcycle battery upgrades for most Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including the V-Rod. When the V-Rod was first introduced, through the 2006 model year, there were two batteries being used- the QUAD12 or QUAD14, which may be identified on your current battery as a BTX14L-BS, BTX12, etc...

Starting in the 2007 model year through the end of Vrod production in 2017, the go-to battery was the QUAD20, which like the QUAD12 or QUAD14, may have been identified on other batteries as a BTX20L or some similar variation that includes the number 20. OPTIMA's ORANGETOP motorcycle batteries offer a lot of important features that motorcycle owners will appreciate, starting with the POWERLINK cable, which allows you to check battery state of charge with a simple LED light on the end of the cable. You can also use the POWERLINK cable to attach an OPTIMA Charger, making it very easy to keep your battery charged.

As you would expect from any reputable lithium battery brand, all OPTIMA ORANGETOP batteries also come with an integrated Battery Management System (BMS) that automatically balances cells, helps protect the battery in extreme temperature situations and automatically disconnects the battery, if there is a current draw that is discharging it. We call this feature "CPR" and it automatically disconnects your battery from whatever is discharging it, while retaining enough energy to provide one more start and get you back home safely.

Regardless of the battery your V-rod needs, the best thing you can do to maximize battery performance and lifespan is to keep the voltage in your battery properly-maintained whenever possible. That makes a quality battery maintenance device a wise investment for any motorcycle owner and OPTIMA offers a Digital 200+ Maintainer that works great on all 12-volt lithium and lead-acid batteries.

The Digital 200+ offers a special connection for the POWERLINK cable that comes with every OPTIMA ORANGETOP battery. While it can be used for charging with the Digital 200+, you can also charge your ORANGETOP with other lithium battery chargers. Unfortunately, most VRod motorcycles don't see daily use, so the best practice, whether you are using an OPTIMA charger or any other, would be to leave your Harley's battery plugged in whenever you are not using the bike. That way, your battery and your bike are both ready to go when you are!
