The eighth generation or C8 Corvette was introduced for the 2020 model year and marked more than just a generational change. It was the first mid-engine factory Corvette and represented a quantum leap forward in technology. New technology does bring increased electrical demand and C8 Corvettes now use an H6 battery that weighs a whopping 35 pounds more than the 6-volt batteries used in the C1 Corvettes.

The 6-volt days are well in the rear view at this point and that's a good thing, but the larger H6 batteries are needed because of all the electrical demands in modern Corvettes. It's not that the C8 engines, whether they are an LT2, LT6, LT7 or some future iteration require tremendous amounts of cranking power to start, but that the key-off load and electrical demands as the C8 sits can completely discharge smaller batteries in relatively short order.

We know weight isn't necessarily an ally of performance vehicles, but it does tie in directly with the amount of active material and the quality of components in car batteries. OPTIMA Batteries pack as many plates as possible into our DH6 YELLOWTOPs and we connect the cells with robust cast straps that allow for the quick transfer of power into and out of the battery. It's more expensive to manufacture batteries like this, but we believe it's the best way to make batteries that will out-perform and outlast the competition.

The H6 case is basically the same dimensions, regardless of the brand, so you'll know how much more energy we pack into our YELLOWTOPs, by comparing their 54-lb weight with other H6 lead-acid batteries.

Do You Need Something Lighter & More Powerful?

We realize 54 pounds is more weight than some Corvette owners would like to have onboard, especially if they've done everything in their power to drop weight everywhere else on their car (and on their own bodies). If that's the case for you and your Corvette, we'd invite you to consider OPTIMA's all-new QH6 ORANGETOP lithium battery. The QH6 ORANGETOP has all the cranking power your 2020 Corvette will need in a package that weighs nearly 24 pounds less than the DH6 YELLOWTOP.

That doesn't make OPTIMA's QH6 the lightest H6 lithium battery on the market, but our goal was never to be the lightest, just the best. Some brands may offer a variety of weights in a specific size, with the lighter weights offering less cranking power and reserve capacity. We chose to focus on a package that offers the best combination of premium power, cycle life, durability, safety, protection from the elements and advanced features.

Some of those features include OPTIMA's CPR system that automatically turns off a battery as it is being drained, to ensure there is enough power remaining to start it one more time and get you home safely. These batteries also have Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to monitor your battery on your smart phone and take action as needed.

Take Good Care of Your Investment

OPTIMA's DH6 YELLOWTOPs come with a three-year, free replacement warranty and the QH6 ORANGETOP comes with a five-year, free replacement warranty. We always encourage folks to maintain proper voltage in their batteries whenever possible. A full state of charge for our YELLOWTOP batteries is about 13.0-13.2 volts and for our ORANGETOP batteries, it's about 14.0 volts. We're so confident proper voltage maintenance will help maximize battery performance and lifespan, we'll add an additional year of free replacement warranty coverage to your OPTIMA battery purchase, if you buy a 1200-series OPTIMA battery charger from us when you buy your OPTIMA battery!
