The 2026 Griffin King of the Hammers, powered by OPTIMA Batteries ran for the 20th time and as many expected, the course layout proved to be the toughest in the history of the event. It was so difficult that when it became clear no one would finish the race in the allowed time, part of the last lap was eliminated to allow someone to record an official finish.
In the end, only two "official" finishers made it across the line:
The main results from the King of the Hammers website also congratulate "third, fourth and fifth finishers across the line, Aaron Smith, Max Gordon and Pip Justice who finished the course out of time." However, those drivers are listed in the results as 11th, ninth and eighth (listed in the fifth, tenth and ninth positions on that sheet). If that all seems a bit confusing, just know that Randy Slawson and Josh Blyler were the only two official finishers out of 82 that started and the Griffin King of the Hammers powered by OPTIMA Batteries is still the world's toughest one-day offroad race.
