It's hard to believe 2022 Chevrolet Camaro owners are already looking to replace batteries, but many of those cars have been on the road for four years or more. OPTIMA offers two different batteries for the 2022 Camaro, but Camaro owners also have the option of choosing a flooded lead-acid battery.

Price

A flooded lead-acid battery (Group 48 or H6) will likely be the least expensive option for a Camaro owner, but it will also offer the least performance and shortest lifespan. We know there are other battery brands that may only offer AGM or lithium batteries and will only recommend the type they sell. We believe in giving consumers the best information possible and if we fit into their purchase process, we hope to be considered. If up front price is your biggest concern, then a flooded lead-acid battery will offer the best initial price. This might also be a good option for someone who is about to sell their Camaro and is unlikely to recoup the cost of purchasing an AGM or lithium replacement battery.

AGM

Most buyers will opt for an AGM replacement, for which OPTIMA offers a DH6 YELLOWTOP upgrade. In the lead-acid battery world, there's a strong correlation between battery weight and power. Where a flooded H6 battery might weigh as little as 42 pounds, a typical H6 AGM battery might weigh 44-46 pounds. OPTIMA's DH6 YELLOWTOP with PUREFLOW technology weighs in at a hefty 54 pounds! Why does the OPTIMA weigh so much more, when the battery footprint is identical? We pack our batteries with as much active material as possible, use 99.99% pure virgin lead and robust cast straps to connect the cell.

While AGM batteries in general and OPTIMA YELLOWTOPs specifically may cost more up front than a flooded lead-acid battery, they can last up to three times as long as a flooded battery (and are up to 15X more resistant to damage from vibration), so they will definitely provide value over the life of the battery.

Lithium

If you are looking to save as much weight as possible in your Camaro, then a lithium battery will offer you the best opportunity to do just that. Dave Schotz (pictured above) runs our QH6 ORANGETOP in his '22 Camaro, which has won the GT Class in OPTIMA's Ultimate Street Series in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The QH6 ORANGETOP weighs in at just 21 pounds, but it offers more than just a significant weight savings.

OPTIMA's QH6 ORANGETOP will offer vastly superior cycle life and as much as there is a step up in efficient charge acceptance and current delivery from flooded to AGM, there's also a big step up from AGM to lithium in that regard. OPTIMA's QH6 ORANGETOP will accept and deliver current far more efficiently than an AGM battery and with 45AH of capacity, it still has enough reserve power to get you safely off the track, if your charging system fails.

The QH6 ORANGETOP comes with a five-year, free replacement warranty (versus three years for the YELLOWTOP) and it also has OPTIMA's CPR system, which automatically turns the battery off, if it is being deeply discharged, holding enough power in reserve to start your Camaro one more time and get you home safely. The battery can be turned on or off manually at the battery or by using the free mobile app, which also shows you the state of charge of the battery, rate of charge/discharge and how many times the battery has been cycled.

Get an Extra Year of Free Replacement Warranty Coverage

If you purchase any OPTIMA battery direct from us and purchase an OPTIMA D1200+ battery charger at the same time, we'll add an additional year of free replacement warranty coverage to your OPTIMA battery. Why do we do that? Because we know proper voltage maintenance will maximize the performance and lifespan of any battery.
