When you deal in car batteries every day, you sometimes overlook some basic questions people might ask about how to properly care for and maintain them. We received just such a question the other day from a consumer who needed to charge their car battery. They wanted to know if they needed to remove the battery from their vehicle in order to charge it.

They asked this question because a lot of our tech videos show batteries sitting on a work bench, not connected to a vehicle. We do this, because it's often easier to see what we're talking about, rather than because it is a requirement. The truth is, you don't need to remove or even disconnect your car battery (or boat battery) from your vehicle in order to charge it.

If the entire thought of charging a car battery seems intimidating to you, know that OPTIMA battery chargers are very easy to use, even for folks who know very little about cars. Our chargers all have reverse polarity protection, so even if you connect the clamps to the wrong terminals, nothing bad will happen, you'll just get an alert to check your connection. Our clamps also have no-spark technology built into them, so you don't have to worry about sparks when making connections.
