The Hyundai Elantra has used several different battery sizes, going back to the 2006 model year. The first year (2006), the Elantra used a Group 124R battery, for which OPTIMA offers no direct-fit upgrade options. The next three years (2007-2010), the Elantra used a Group 121R battery, for which OPTIMA also offers no direct-fit upgrades.
Things changed starting in the 2011 model year, as the Hyundai Elantra went to "DIN" sized batteries, starting with the DH5 YELLOWTOP in 2011 and continuing through 2016. However, starting in 2014 through 2018, Elantras with a 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission needed an even larger DH6 YELLOWTOP (manual transmission-equipped cars could still use the DH5). Even if you didn't choose an OPTIMA, Hyundai recommends using an AGM lead-acid battery and not just a typical flooded lead-acid battery.
The 2.0-liter equipped Elantras also need the larger DH6 YELLOWTOP from 2017-2018, as do the 1.4-liter equipped cars from the same era. However, starting with the 2019 model year through 2025, 1.4-liter, 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter Hyundai Elantra owners could once again use the smaller DH5 YELLOWTOP, except for the 1.6-liter Hybrid Elantras.
The 2021-25 hybrid Hyundai Elantras call for a 12V lithium battery and they are typically located underneath the back seat on the driver's side of the car. If you are having trouble with your battery in a hybrid Elantra, the first option might be to press the 12V Batt Reset button, located on the lower part of the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel.
